Nissan GT-R excitement starts

Partially-covered GT-R, possibly pre-production unit, was entered in the Goodwood Festival of Speed in UK in June this year



A dedicated website has been created at [url]www.gtrnissan.com[/url] and this will progressively have more information and pictures for enthusiasts and those who want to buy one. Deliveries will commence in December 2007 but supporting substantial early customer interest in the GT-R, the company is today making available for customers in Japan some initial details including basic specifications, colours and practical information on placing pre-orders. Prices in Japan will start from around 7.8 million yen – that’s equivalent to around RM233,000 before the high import duty that will be imposed when it comes into Malaysia.

Initially, demand is going to be high so the number of units available per market will be limited. Certainly, there will be a number of buyers in the US waiting since this will be the first time that this model is officially sold there. It is unknown how many units will be available for Malaysia but Edaran Tan Chong Motor is aware that at least one Malaysian has confirmed an order.
Nissan has managed to keep the specifications a secret but rumours are that the GT-R will have a 3.8-litre V6, almost certainly from the award-winning VQ family. With twin turbos, the power output is expected to be as high as 480 bhp though some say it may be 550 bhp (perhaps with NISMO parts). Besides a 7-speed transmission, there will also be a sophisticated 4-wheel drive ATESSA system present and possibly other advanced traction control and vehicle stability systems plus 4-wheel steering.
